Water managed by Stòras Uibhist
West Loch Ollay lies on the low machair of South Uist, a short distance from the Atlantic shore. It is a small, very shallow water of roughly 40 hectares with high alkalinity. The shoreline is broken into bays and points, and there are small islands in the west bay.
Bank and boat fishing are good. Productive areas are round the small islands in the west bay. Like the other machair lochs, the machair drop-off can be found on the west of the loch; a team of flies worked over the edge of this feature is a good bet. Expect the fishing to be slow but with great rewards of specimen wild brown trout.
