Water managed by Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association
Llyn Cerrigllwydion Isaf is a very small loch of roughly 6 hectares, lying among the open moorland of mid-Wales in Powys. The water is peaty and brown-tinged, with low alkalinity, and the llyn sits sheltered from the prevailing wind — the fetch across it barely reaches half a kilometre. At moderate depth and with a shoreline that curves gently without great complexity, it has a quiet, enclosed character.
The llyn holds small wild brown trout running to around a pound.
Access involves a walk of roughly three and a half kilometres heading west and then south-west from the starting point near the eastern end of the route. The going crosses open moorland, with the ground rising and falling in modest stages before the llyn comes into view from the higher ground to the north-east. The approach is unhurried, and the llyn rewards patience on arrival.
