Loch Féith an Leòthaid lies in the Highland interior, roughly eight kilometres from the coast, set among open hill ground at a moderate altitude. It is a loch of about 42 hectares — larger than its modest reputation might suggest — with a moderately irregular shoreline of bays and slight headlands giving it some variety of form. The water is clear, the alkalinity moderate, and the depth reasonable for a hill loch of this kind, running to around six metres on average.
The loch holds free-rising brown trout of varying size, and a good basket is the usual reward for those who make the effort to reach it. It is the kind of water where the trout come willingly, and a full day on the bank is seldom wasted.
Access is from Little Assynt to the south-west. The route heads north and east across open moorland, covering roughly five kilometres with a gradual rise into the hill ground before the loch comes into view. Allow an hour and a half on foot.
